Taurus / Scorpio and Sex, Love and Meditation
As I write this, the Moon is waxing toward full in the sign of Taurus, opposite the Sun in Scorpio. In my view this is the most sensual / sexual sign polarity in the zodiac, so in service to the cause of wholly union, I offer these excerpts from my book Signs of the Zodiac: Clothing of the Self, with a focus on the themes of sex, love and meditation. I begin with Taurus, followed by Scorpio.
“From pleasure comes sorrow, from pleasure comes fear; he who is free from pleasure is free from sorrow and fear .. He who forgets the real aim of life and grasps at pleasure, will in time envy him who has exerted himself in meditation”
– Buddha [Dhammapada]
It is a rare Taurean who will follow this advice of the Buddha, for Taureans are the most pleasure loving creatures of the zodiac. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty in her earthy, sensual aspect, they especially love a beautiful body – such a joy to have and to hold.
M-m-m .. Attuning more deeply to the sensual energy of Taurus now, my thoughts lead naturally from there to the delights of concupiscence .. Ah yes, I can feel myself entering that pleasure zone even as I write .. M-m-m
Reader, may I suggest you make yourself comfortable as I begin to ‘channel’ Taurus in lover mode, the favoured mode of many of the species. To begin, lie down and relax .. And then relax some more .. A-h-h .. What bliss just to relax and enjoy ,, Now visualize touching and being touched .. Then hugging and stroking .. Followed by .. a slow build that goes on and on, all night long .. Scrumptious, absolutely scrumptious!
Yes indeed, Taurus loves to make love, for to make love, as long and as often as possible, is above all how love is made and sustained on planet Earth. This at least is how Taurus sees it, and so I now proclaim on behalf of Taurus, that the body is holy and is to be loved wholly, in a spirit of joyful delight, without any sense of shame or inhibition whatsoever. And I further declare that this proclamation is sanctioned and sanctified by the holy writ of the Earth Goddess Venus, the Goddess of love and pleasure.
Excuse that poetic flight of fancy and indulge me once more if you will dear reader, as I once again bring to mind the exquisite pleasures of erotic touch .. m-m-m ..
[Inaudible murmur] What’s that you say Taurus? “More please, please don’t stop.” More!? For Goddess sake!
Yes, to the consternation of many an abstemious or refined soul no doubt, Taureans can be absolutely insatiable. Slow to get started, but once in motion, impossible to stop. In love, as in music, they love a solid groove that ‘keeps on keeping on’. Bliss for them is the calm after the rush, the state of utter relaxation, the feeling of oh-so-delicious contentment after all that Aries excitement, tension, and explosive release .. Mmm .. what a luscious feeling .. ‘Tis truly the peace that passes all understanding ..
Buddha I ask you, could meditation really compare to this?
I suggest the only valid way to answer that question is to try it and find out. Practise, patience and perseverance will be required, so don’t expect instant results and realize there is an art to it, like everything else.
Better still Taurus, why not combine the two, making love and meditation. Of all the signs perhaps, you are most naturally suited to it. See if you agree as I describe how to ‘do’ it. [I put ‘do’ in quotation marks, because strictly speaking, meditation can’t be done. Any technique only lays the ground for the space of meditation to spontaneously arise.] Okay, here goes.
While joined together, stay present, here-now, in the body. Breathe, relax, soften the belly. Don’t strive for an orgasm or any kind of peak experience. Enjoy the garden of delights blooming in the valley. Don’t fantasize. Be alert to thoughts and dreams of past and future taking you out of the body and into the mind. Keep your awareness centred in the body. Really feel the delicious sensation of skin-to-skin connection .. Relax deeper into each other .. Release any tension on the out-breath .. Let go .. a-a-h-h .. Let go even more on the out breath .. A-a-h-h-h .. .. Now rest and be still .. Absolutely still .. Alert, yet relaxed .. utterly relaxed .. No-thought, no-mind, no-past, no-future .. just the felt sensation of pure pleasure here-now in the body .. Mmmm .. Body-to-body .. Breathing as one .. Only one body .. breathing, feeling as one .. This is it .. Unity .. Union .. Bliss .. The space of meditation ..
Recognize this Taurus? If not, why not conduct the experiment. Try it before expressing an opinion or rejecting it out of hand. Experience is the only true test.
“Betrayal of yourself in order not to betray another is betrayal nonetheless. It is the highest betrayal”
– Neale Donald Walsch
Let’s delve into the subject of affairs to shed light on the psycho-dynamics of the Scorpio psyche. For Scorpio, sex is centrally important in a relationship, indeed in their very self-definition. From animal lust to mystical rapture, sex demands total expression. Typically too, Scorpio, even if not conventionally beautiful possesses the mysterious ‘x factor’, exuding a potent sexual magnetism that is compulsively attractive to one’s lover – and to other human animals hunting in the wilds of desire. So sexual fidelity becomes a critically important issue.
Usually all goes well while passion remains on the boil, but if frequency or intensity wanes hot passion is liable to transform into icy resentment and endless probing ‘discussions’ to get to the root of the problem. Scorpio is addicted to intensity, so if all else fails the threat of an affair raises it’s ugly / alluring head. Of course this is not undertaken lightly for Scorpio would hate it done to her and has already laid down the law that affairs are absolutely not on. On the other hand, little or only ordinary sex is also out of the question too. Solution – a secret affair!?
Now the plot thickens, as the story line moves to its fateful destination of an agonizingly stuck situation, which is both unacceptable as is, and unable to be let go of. On the one side, sex with the secret lover is fulfilling such a deeply felt and life enhancing need that to do without it feels like a living death. On the other, the self-judgment and tormenting guilt felt at betraying one’s partner means that to continue is to condemn oneself to a living hell.
At this point let’s turn to the New York born siddha yoga guru, variously known as Bubba Free John, Da Love Ananda and Adi Da Samraj for insight from the highest Scorpionic Source. He writes: “Human beings are generally addicted to sex. They think about it all the time .. [yet] they cannot incarnate themselves sexually to the fullest degree, because they have superimposed on their sexuality so many games and rituals. Therefore, people generally live with a mind full of random desires. They are constantly wandering and thinking about others, because they cannot live love .. You must come to the point where you can live a heart relationship – no superficial ‘householder’ arrangement, no guarantees made by marriage certificates, nothing to hold you together except intimacy itself, the heart itself.”
Most pertinent to our theme is his analysis of the ‘cult of pairs’. The ego, he points out, hunts for another and then binds that other to itself, presuming a kind of ownership that stultifies spiritual growth and freedom. The suppressive effects of such ‘ownership’ tend at some point to inhibit the free play of love and sexual energy in a relationship leading to dissatisfaction or infidelity. For the other side of the cult of pairs is that couples are not merely inclined to cling to one another, but also to dissociate from each other when a new attractive other comes into view.
And, what’s more, it doesn’t even take an outright act of infidelity to trigger the betrayal response, for the ego in his analysis, is always presuming to be betrayed by the other. In fact, feeling betrayed and rejected is the ego he contends, because egoity is the presumption of being a separated, isolated, unloved ‘I’. Further, in reaction to the perceived betrayal, the ego will then attempt to punish the other, by coldness, withdrawal and emotional drama.
His teaching is that the ‘you don’t love me’ reflex in all its various forms is destructive, and that the only happy choice in any moment of actual or presumed betrayal on the part of another is to love. To be able to do this requires undertaking a great ordeal of self-understanding and persistent loving. You have to be willing to confront and to accept the worst in yourself, and your partner, in love.
“To love when you are not loved – that is the heat of spiritual practice” – Adi Da Samraj
If anyone can do this Scorpio can, but it was the experience of his devotees that they just couldn’t do it. The only solution according to Adi Da is to feel beyond themselves to him. Only through complete commitment to heart-communion with him could they be set free from the suffering of their own binding agreements, taboos and betrayals.
Non-devotees could take to heart this advice given to Hercules on how to slay the many headed hydra in Greek myth: “Rise by kneeling / Conquer by surrendering / Gain by giving up / Let go and live”. Or meditate on the truth of this sutra from the Buddhist Dhammapada: “Hate is not conquered by hate. Hate is conquered by love – this is the law eternal”.
