Sagittarians love to travel, whether mentally into the higher reaches of the mind or physically around the planet in search of their particular version of the Holy Grail. Intellectual Sagittarian travellers are typically attracted to literature, philosophy, theology and anthropology, subjects where they can take inspiration from the many influential exemplars from their own sign, for example, authors Jonathan Swift, Joseph Conrad, Jane Austen, Jean Genet, Gustav Flaubert, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Laurens van Der Post, C.S. Lewis, Mark Twain, James Thurber, Louisa M Alcott, Joan Didion, and A.C. Clarke, author of 2001: A Space Odyssey; poets John Milton, William Blake, Rainer Maria Rilke and Emily Dickensen; and anthropologists Margaret Mead and Claude Levi-Strauss.
“We shall not cease from exploration / And the end of all our exploring / Will be to arrive where we started / And know it for the first time”
- T.S. Eliot [Sun sign Libra, Mars conjunct Jupiter in Sagittarius]
From that list it may readily be seen that a good story well told is a Sagittarian forte. Add in enthusiasm, humour and wisdom and it’s easy to see why Sagittarius is such a popular sign. Walt Disney, Woody Allen, and Stephen Spielberg are influential cinematic practitioners of the story telling art, an art that communicates universal truths far more effectively than logical arguments or rational discourse.
“The truth is more important than the facts”
– Frank Lloyd Wright
As for physical travel, Sagittarians are often attracted to the wide open spaces or distant places off the beaten track, like Outback Australia, or to holy places of pilgrimage like Rishikesh or Dharamsala, or to decidedly unholy places where they can party and go ‘over the top’, for example, Goa, Ibiza, Byron Bay, or wherever the latest ‘in’ place happens to be. At some point in their travels they are sure to discover the truth of the maxim ‘wherever you go, there you are’ and sooner or later, unless it is their genuine vocation to be an explorer, tour guide, travel writer, journalist, or such like, the restless urge to be always on the move, the compulsive quest for adventure and excitement, the futile attempt to escape boredom and mundanity by changing jobs, partners and places to live will run its course and .. what then Sagittarius? Settle down and grow up? Heaven forbid!
