“Love and desire are the spirit’s wings to great deeds”
This March 24 / 25 weekend has two challenging alignments involving Venus (love and desire) and Mars (great deeds) that Goethe’s leading quote so nicely encapsulates the positive potential thereof: Venus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn, perfecting at 10:10 am Saturday morning March 24 AEDT and Sun in Aries square Mars in Capricorn perfecting at 3:07 am Sunday Morning March 25 AEDT.
Venus Pluto alignments colour love with a passionate intensity that tends to create dramatic dilemmas where it is difficult to accept the situation as is, for example an affair with someone married, or a boss or employee, or someone otherwise inappropriate, or a partner who has values or addictions that you cannot accept, for example he smokes and you hate that, or wants to be free to have other lovers and you want monogamy, but, and it is so often a big but, the sex or money is so good it is equally difficult to let the relationship go also. Pluto gives a compulsion to take a bite of the forbidden apple and an overall obsessive quality to relating and a destructive tendency to want to remake the other in one’s own image or values. Better to focus on changing yourself or let go if you are truly ‘over the drama.’ Typically that’s easy to say and difficult to do, and with so much Aries about at present – Sun, Mercury, Venus and Uranus are transiting through the sign, sparks and conflict are almost inevitable. Combined with the Sun Mars alignment explored below, the timing is ‘perfect’ for a fight then fuck, fuck you, fuck off psycho-drama!
The uber yang Sun Mars square is a power plus alignment that amps everything up in a testosterone fuelled surge of energy. Squares are form releasing aspects and should not automatically be construed as ‘bad’. They pile the pressure on to bring about change. Considering the Sun is exalted in Aries and Mars is exalted in Capricorn this is a wonderful alignment to accomplish great deeds – if raw instinctual drives can be reigned in, harnessed and controlled by an aware ego. Think the Chariot tarot card and you get the picture. If the charioteer can not control his impulsive, impatient desires [Aries] that want what they what yesterday, he will not be able to effectively direct the driving power of his gallant horses to achieve great things. That’s where the Capricorn influence can provide the mature wisdom of delaying instant gratification in the interests of achieving long term goals. Rome was not built in a day, ‘it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll,’ If we can integrate the hot-to-trot brave heart courage of Sun in Aries and the stamina and strategic planning of Mars in Capricorn then great deeds can indeed be accomplished this weekend.
